Screen Shot 2015-05-18 at 9.47.21 AMMore than 150 Holocaust survivors attended a special Café Europa event this week, held in recognition of the Day of Liberation.

At the May 14 event organized by the Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Greater Philadelphia, guests heard remarks by Josh Shapiro, chairman of the Montgomery County Commission, along with some old-world entertainment.

A performance by the kindergarten class at Temple Beth Hillel-Beth El, where the event took plance, brought added smiles to the survivors.

Café Europa is a series of socialization events for Holocaust survivors in Philadelphia. The events provide survivors with the opportunity to enjoy a meal and companionship of friends in an atmosphere filled with Yiddishkeit, akin to the atmosphere of pre-World War II European cabaret and coffee houses.

The event was co-sponsored by Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia.
