The Teen Empowerment Program (TEP) provides teens with a springboard to become future leaders in the community. TEP teens experience philanthropy and the grants and allocations process first-hand, as well as volunteer opportunities with JFCS clients. The TEP program is facilitated by JFCS’ professional staff who work with teens to explore and enact the Jewish values of tzedakah (giving back) and tikkun olam (repairing the world).

FIRST YEAR PROGRAM (Ages 13 & 14)

Fundamentals of Giving — Teens focus on Jewish values, philanthropy, and the grants and allocations process. Participants learn about JFCS programs and, as a group, select the programs for which they volunteer, allocate funds, and make an impact. Teens also give back to JFCS clients through hands-on volunteering.

SECOND YEAR PROGRAM (Ages 14 & 15)

Fundraising 101 — Teens learn how to become passionate advocates for causes they care about, as well as effective fundraisers, working together to raise money for JFCS programs by planning and executing a successful fundraiser. Teens also give back to JFCS clients through hands-on volunteering.

THIRD YEAR PROGRAM (Ages 15 & 16 & those interested in leadership programming)

Becoming Grant Writers — In this expanded leadership program, teens collaborate with JFCS staff to write their own grants, learning to effectively advocate for programs about which they are passionate. Teens will inform the grants through hands-on volunteering with JFCS clients.
